Showtime Sets Sacha Baron Cohen’s TV Return ‘Who Is America?’

It's Cohen's first new show in more than a decade.

Showtime has revealed its new project with Sacha Baron Cohen.

Showtime had been running online promos for the mystery show, teasing the July 15 premiere of "perhaps the most risky show in the history of television" with a lead character that is "shameless", "unhinged" and "cold-blooded".

Actor Sacha Baron Cohen this week released a teaser for a project featuring former Vice President Dick Cheney signing a "waterboard kit". "That's the first time I've ever signed a waterboard". He interviewed Donald Trump as Ali G and pitched him an idea for a glove you can wear while eating ice cream so it doesn't drip on your hand, and Trump was uncharacteristically polite.

It is unclear how much Baron Cohen's new show will focus on the Trump administration.

Showtime president David Nevins said: "Sacha is a comedic genius who shocks you with his audacity, bravery and inventiveness".

"Dick Cheney is it possible to sign my waterboard kit?"

Now, the first teaser for his new series for U.S. network Showtime has dropped, and it looks very promising, indeed.

Last week, however, Cohen resurfaced on Twitter and posted a video of Trump urging him to "go to school, learn about being amusing".

The new interview-based series called Who is America? is set to premiere this Sunday, July 15th at Midnight EST.

It also follows news from earlier this year, in which it was said that Baron Cohen was trying to get in a room with O.J. Simpson.
