Starbucks: No more plastic straws

29 2018 a woman is seen in front of a Starbucks shortly before it closes early for anti-bias training in Washington DC. Starbucks was back in hot water

It will be implemented in Seattle and Vancouver beginning this fall, the company said.

In its place, Starbucks will cap cold beverages with a special lid that doesn't require the use of a straw.

The recyclable lids are already in use in about 8,000 Starbucks locations in the United States and Canada, the company said.

The design was created by R&D engineer Emily Alexander, who was asked in 2016 to create a new straw-less lid that would showcase the Draft Nitro coffee and cold foam served at a Reserve store in Seattle.

The coffee giant has designed, developed, and manufactured a strawless lid that will become the standard for all iced coffee, tea, and espresso beverages served in their locations around the world.

Starbucks joins companies, cities, and countries around the world that have banned plastic straws.

McDonald's recently said it would switch to paper straws in the United Kingdom and Ireland by next year, and test alternatives to plastic straws in some US locations. McDonald's shareholders voted down a proposal requesting a report on plastic straws in May, although it recently said it would switch to paper straws in the United Kingdom and Ireland by next year, and test alternatives to plastic straws in some US locations.

Bihar girl raped for months by principal, two teachers and 16 students
The accused filmed the act and blackmailed the girl, saying they would make the video public if she informed anyone. However, a few days later, the alleged rapists shared the video with other school friends, the FIR said.

The move will eliminate more than one billion plastic straws per year from Starbucks stores, the company said.

Fueling the movement is increased consumer environmentalism and concern about the many straws that end up polluting oceans and waterways.

Grenier, best known for his role in the TV show Entourage, urged Starbucks at its March shareholders meeting in Seattle to take action. "I hope all of you will listen to her".

This isn't the first time Starbucks has considered the environmental impact its customers waste has.

Starbuckshadalready committed $10 million to help develop recyclable, compostable cups for hot drinks.
