They thanked those who rescued them for their help and bravery while sat in their beds.

The 12 boys and their football coach who were trapped in a cave in Thailand are recovering well and have appeared in a video message.

ONE of the divers who played a critical role in the rescue of the 12 Thai soccer boys and their coach believes the kids would not have made it out had they not been drugged.

A doctor at the hospital at which they are being treated said: "All of the boys who were evacuated from the cave have been informed of the death of one of the rescuers".

Dr Harris described the operation as a "pretty unbelievable experience".

Fellow divers Chris Jewell and Connor Roe, both from Somerset; Josh Bratchley, from Devon; Jim Warny, from Co Clare, Ireland; Mike Clayton, from Yorkshire; and Gary Mitchell, from Wales, returned home on Friday.

The group, called the "Wild Boars" after their football academy, went into the Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand on June 23 to celebrate a birthday, but became trapped as floodwaters poured in. It shows the 12 boys and their coach in a hospital expressing gratitude for the support they received from inside and outside the country.

"(They provided) everything from catering, communications, media and of course the huge teams of workers filling the cave with tonnes and tonnes of equipment to try and lower the water and sustain the diving operations", he wrote on Facebook.

Thai authorities have prevented reporters, camped in cafes and at street corners outside the hospital in Chiang Rai, from interviewing the boys, and with good reason, Danese said.

The deceased was identified as Mohammed Azam while those injured were called Talha Ismail, Mohammed Salman and Mohammed Bashir. One of the men offered the kids some candies , after which the locals assumed that they were trying to abduct the children.

The children and their coach remain in quarantine along with the Thai Navy SEALs involved in their rescue.

"Some moments of significant fear I have to say, a great result and some really joyous moments to finish".

His boss Dr Andrew Pearce said Harris was grieving for his father.

Richard Harris and his dive partner Craig Challen, and the team of doctors he worked with and DFAT officers. "I am just trying to get back to normal life as soon as possible".

Thai authorities called Harris for help on July 5 when experts divers from the United Kingdom, who were leading the mission, said he was the best person for the job, given his medical skills and 30 years' worth of diving experience, according to the ABC.

On Wednesday, Harris declined to comment to the Australian newspaper in Thailand.

The boys, who were located by two British divers, were sedated and carried through waterlogged and partially dry corridors with the help of military stretchers and nearly 100 divers.

Harris, an anesthetist and underwater cave explorer who is also known as Harry, was the last man out of the cave Tuesday.
