Tropical Storm Beryl speeding toward eastern Caribbean

LOLA wave model guidance valid on Monday afternoon

Chris may eventually impact parts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland while transitioning into a strong non-tropical area of low pressure late in the week. It was centered 60 miles (95 kilometers) east of Martinique and was racing west-northwestward at 26 mph (43 kph).

Chris was stationary about 160 miles south of Cape Hatteras, N.C. with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, according to the NHC 11 a.m. EDT advisory.

Forecasters say the storm's remnants are expected to produce 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 centimeters) of rain, with up to 5 inches (13 centimeters) in isolated areas.

Tropical Storm Chris, the third named storm of this season, is forecast to become a hurricane by Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

High surf and risky rip currents are expected along parts of the Carolina and mid-Atlantic coasts through early week. They predict Beryl will continue to weaken over the next 24 hours, but said the storm may develop into a tropical cyclone in a few days as it moves across the Bahamas and the western Atlantic.

Mercedes F1 vehicle upgrade improved stability, say Bottas and Hamilton
With track temperatures significantly higher than during practice and qualifying in previous days, tire management became tricky. The German finished third to take a one-point lead going into the British GP at Silverstone next weekend.

McNoldy noted the simultaneous presence of two July tropical storms, Beryl and Chris, hasnt happened since 2011, when Bret and Cindy roamed the Atlantic. Martinique, St. Martin, and St. Barthelemy; Saba and St. Eustatius; and St. Maarten remain on a tropical storm watch.

N.H.C. said this morning that interests elsewhere in the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic should monitor the progress of Beryl.

'Additional weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, especially once Beryl reaches the eastern Caribbean Sea on Monday, ' the NHC said.

Hurricane Beryl had been downgraded to a tropical storm by Sunday and was still on track toward Puerto Rico, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean islands.

About 7,000 houses and businesses in Puerto Rico still lack power after Hurricane Maria leveled an electricity grid that was ill-maintained before the storm.
