Trump claims ex-lawyer's phone-taping is 'perhaps illegal'

Michael Cohen

"Inconceivable that the government would break into a lawyer's office (early in the morning) - nearly unheard of", he posted at 8:10 am.

Cohen's attorneys are said to have discovered the recording while going through a trove of seized documents and records as part of a privilege review.

The New Yorker magazine reported in February that Trump had an affair with McDougal at the same time he had a relationship with porn star Stormy Daniels and that the National Enquirer prevented McDougal's story being made public.

Asked about the deal just days before the 2016 election, Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks told The Wall Street Journal: "We have no knowledge of any of this". "The good news is that your favourite President did nothing wrong!"

His comments stoked speculation that Mr Cohen could co-operate with investigators against Mr Trump, but there has been no indication so far that he has done so.

The New York State Bar Association calls such secret recording unethical.

Mitchell Epner, an attorney at Rottenberg Lipman Rich who was previously an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, told Business Insider that Cohen could have made the recording either "for his own protection" or to ensure he got repaid for an expenditure he thought could have been agreed to in the conversation. New York, where the taping reportedly took place, legally requires only one person's consent for such a recording.

In May, President Trump admitted that he had reimbursed Mr Cohen for a payment to another woman to hush up her claims of an affair.

Unemployment rate lowest in over five years
Global students are legally limited to 20 hours of employment per week, restricting their impact on the overall labour market. The result signals much-needed labour tightness - which would encourage employers to bid up wages - might still be a way off.

But the outlet never published the piece.

Ms McDougal says she had a 10-month affair with Mr Trump in 2006, a year after he Wednesday Melania Trump.

McDougal, who claims she began an affair with Trump in 2006, sold her story to The National Enquirer in 2016 for $150,000.

Lawyer Rudy Giuliani said no campaign funding was involved in the discussion between Trump and Cohen, who has distanced himself from Trump in recent months as the FBI investigates Cohen's business dealings.

On Saturday, Trump appeared to slam both the Federal Bureau of Investigation raid and Cohen's behavior as "inconceivable".

Stormy Daniels attorney Michael Avenatti said Michael Cohen has several audio recordings of President TrumpDonald John TrumpNFL freezes policy barring players from protesting during anthem McConnell spokesman on Putin visit: "There is no invitation from Congress" Petition urges University of Virginia not to hire Marc Short MORE discussing women who have come forward after allegedly having affairs with Trump.

"In the big scheme of things, it's powerful exculpatory evidence", he said.

CNN also reported that "a source familiar with the tape" said Trump responded to its existence by saying: "I can't believe Michael would do this to me".
