"US Not Treated Fairly But I believe In NATO", Says Trump

It's unclear how many Republicans would hang tough if Trump actually bothers to veto the bill.

President Donald Trump said Thursday that he would confront Russian President Vladimir Putin at an upcoming summit in Helsinki Monday over allegations that the country interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

After a tense first day, Trump didn't ease up on the second.

President Donald Trump's displeasure with the U.S.'s military allies over their relatively low defense spending is no secret.

At the end of the first day, Trump unsettled allies even more by questioning the value of the military alliance, which was formed to counter Soviet aggression during the Cold War.

Trump said there had been "tremendous progress" and that allies were "going to up it at levels they've never seen before".

A joint summit declaration issued Wednesday underlined NATO's support for Ukraine and its aspirations for membership of the alliance, pending domestic reforms. The figure is non-binding, and the goal was to reach it by 2024, not immediately.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called an emergency session of all 29 allies to address Trump's demands, and the USA leader said his hectoring had paid off.

Asked about Trump's suggestion, Stoltenberg said he'll focus on what's been agreed to.

In anticipation of Donald Trump's Global Chaos Tour a couple of days ago I told everyone to get ready, because it was going to be wild. "There is a communique that was published yesterday". Trump said. "All I can do is say 'Did you?' and 'Don't do it again, '" Trump said, according to The Washington Post. Macron said France, which past year spent 1.8 percent on defence, would meet the target by the 2024 deadline.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg gestures as he holds a news conference during the NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium, July 11, 2018. 'We make by far - and that's one thing I guess I assume that prior to taking office but I really learned since being president, our equipment is so much better than anybody else's equipment when you look at our companies, ' Trump said. But I said, ultimately we should be - in years in advance, we should be at 4 percent.

"We understand your message, but some people ask themselves, will you be tweeting differently once you're aboard Air Force One?" a Croatian reporter asked.

The United States and Canada swung sharply on Sunday (10 June) toward a diplomatic and trade crisis as top White House advisers lashed out at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a day after US President Trump called him "very dishonest and weak". "I'm a very stable genius".

Instead, a series of events - a black-tie dinner with business leaders, a meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May and an audience with Queen Elizabeth II - will happen outside the bustling city, where Mayor Sadiq Khan has been in a verbal battle with Trump.

All 29 North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders including Trump backed a joint statement committing themselves to greater "burden sharing" and to the alliance's founding commitment that an attack on one member is an attack on them all - with no mention of the four per cent.

Trump claimed member nations had agreed to significantly boost their defence budgets and reaffirmed - after days of griping that the US was being taken advantage of by its allies - that the USA remains faithful to the accord.

It's no secret that Trump and Merkel have a poor personal relationship, but German political analysts don't think she is Trump's real target. He described the U.K.as a "hot-spot with lots of resignations".

Trump's trip to Britain will test the bonds of the U.S. and U.K.'s special relationship.
