'Utter nonsense': Putin attacks USA reporter's question about Mueller probe and collusion

Hillary Clinton

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin sat down Monday at their Helsinki summit with an array of complex issues to discuss. "We've had the president's own director of national intelligence saying that that meddling continues today and the light is blinking red, and yet instead of confronting Mr. Putin, the president is embracing him while trashing the investigators, picking fights with out allies and blaming the United States for tensions with Russia", Tony Blinken, who served as former president Barack Obama's deputy national security advisor and deputy secretary of state, said on CNN.

Trump congratulated Putin on Russia's hosting of the World Cup football tournament, which climaxed yesterday in Moscow with the Kremlin chief in attendance. We will have discussions on everything from trade to military to missiles to nuclear (weapons) to China.

Kicking off the summit Trump said to Putin: 'I really think the world wants to see us get along'. They met on the sidelines of world leader meetings in Germany and Vietnam a year ago.

Trump acknowledged that Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, had told him that Russian Federation was behind the cyber-attack on American democracy but that Putin insisted it was not. "We ran a brilliant campaign and that's why I'm president", he said.

"We have good talks, we started to understand each other better". "It's a bad thing", Trump said.

"I'm here today to continue the proud tradition of bold American diplomacy", Trump said after meeting with Putin for two hours in Helsinki, Finland. Trump's statements were a stunning development, given that the top intelligence agencies in the United States including the FBI, CIA, and National Security Agency have all said they believe Russian Federation meddled in the election.

The former Central Intelligence Agency head, who has regularly criticized Trump throughout his presidency, also blasted Trump last week after he hammered allies about their contributions to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation at the group's annual summit. It's a negative force.

Whether the leaders of the world's two foremost nuclear superpowers would resolve any of their disagreements was an open question as they began their first extensive face-to-face talks since Trump assumed power almost 18 months ago. While Putin has long denied Russian involvement and did so again Monday, the USA intelligence community has long maintained that Russia did, in fact, meddle in the US election, and just three days ago, the Justice Department indicted 12 Russian government agents for hacking the Democratic Party during the 2016 election.

He added cryptically that his Russian counterpart "has an interesting idea" about it.

Trump also called Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into the matter a "disaster for our country".

After Trump's statements, he and Putin shook hands before the media.

"Our relationship with Russian Federation has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of United States foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!"

According to Trump, the pair "spoke of Russian interference in the election. When I won it became a big deal and the Rigged Witch Hunt headed by Strzok!" he tweeted.
