Varner, Kraft tied for lead at Greenbrier in West Virginia

Harold Varner III is seeking his first Tour win

The American, yet to win on the PGA Tour, mixed eight birdies with one bogey in the second round in West Virginia.

Watch A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier throughout the weekend live on Sky Sports. Since this tournament debuted in 2010, there have been four first-time champions, but no third-round leader has won.

"But I've been working on some things that I knew were finally going to click". "I'm pretty hungry. This is what you work for. This is what I get so pumped up to do".

Phil Mickelson is back in a tie for 33rd at 5 under after shooting a 1-under 69.

Both were 14-under at the end of the penultimate round.

Varner's best finish was a tie for fifth at the OHL Classic in Mexico in 2016. His top career finish was tying for fifth at the 2015 PGA Championship.

"I've kind of changed my attitude, starting with last week", Kraft said. "I hung in there". That's never really been a problem. It's just taken a little while longer than anticipated. So it goes back to keeping it in perspective.

"I'm just happy with the way I'm playing", Lahiri said.

"It's nice to come out and hit the shots that you can see in practice and actually perform still under pressure when the clubs are in your hand and you're trying to obviously improve what you're doing".

Kelly Kraft bolstered his hopes of a maiden PGA Tour title by taking a one-shot lead into the weekend at the Greenbrier.

Kraft carded four birdies in a front-nine 30 and holed a five footer at the 11th, before dropping his only shot of the day on the 12th after a wild tee shot was followed by finding a bunker with his third.

Kraft said he struggled judging the speed of his putts. "And especially on the back nine, there were two or three greens that were just - they were borderline rolling too fast". Both were at 12 under. Bubba Watson shot 65 and was among three players at 11 under.

"Big day tomorrow, " Watson said.

On Thursday, despite a fine start, Lahiri was lying tied 24th as Webb Simpson, who shot 9-under 61, led by a shot over Whee Kim. The 27-year-old recorded one of only two bogey-free laps on Moving Day (John Peterson) and is blemish-free for his last 42 holes.

Kim, who had a 63 on Thursday and a 65 on Friday, got rolling with an eagle on No. 3 and added six birdies. He sank an 18-foot birdie putt at the par-3 third and a 22-footer to birdie the fourth. She made a testy putt to save par. No specific dates were given, but Mamone said she expects it will be in late September or early October 2019, meaning it could be left off the PGA Tour's 2018-19 schedule. "I just want to keep challenging myself and what I can do, " she said. "Even if I break it, I'll keep [making] the challenges higher". This moved Harold Varner III to 1 under for the round.

"Just trust yourself, " she said. But after the major tournament, I realized, 'OK, I can do that.' If I imagine, it comes true.

Amy Yang was a distant second at 16 under after shooting a 5-under 67. "It's a good feeling". "It doesn't happen very often when that's the case".

Katherine Kirk - who won the tournament's inaugural edition a year ago and led Thursday after opening with a 62 - couldn't get her putting going and settled for a 71. After kicking off with 66 and season-low 64, he began T5, three short of leader Kraft.

Kim was at 16-under 128 overall - tied for the tour's lowest 36-hole score of the season - and four shots ahead of Yu Liu (63).

Simpson's round of 67 paled in comparison to the 61 of yesterday but he was delighted with the way he bounced back after a shaky start. Lee Westwood was seven behind after a 70.
