Vettel wins British Grand Prix to extend world title lead

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and Great Britain during previews ahead of the Formula One Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone

Kimi Raikkonen ruined Lewis Hamilton's race at the British Grand Prix when he tagged the Brit, pitching him into a spin.

Bottas started third on the grid, but was nearly immediately promoted to second thanks to a poor start by team-mate Lewis Hamilton. There is joy to be taken watching Hamilton caning the asphalt bearing a grudge, or, put another, way taking more than a second a lap out of his Ferrari bogeyman Raikkonen.

In their official ruling, stewards said Hamilton had "clearly left significant room on the inside" of the corner and that Raikkonen "locked up his right front tyre, understeered and caused a collision".

The Ferrari driver had two penalty points applied to his superlicence in addition to the in-race time penalty. Vettel, who had assumed the lead into the first corner following Hamilton's leaden getaway, was the clear beneficiary.

Vettel pitted but Mercedes kept Hamilton out, assuring him he was "the fastest guy by miles" with everything to play for on tyres that would last the distance. "I will not give up", said Hamilton after falling eight points behind race victor Vettel.

The German secured victory with an overtake of Valtteri Bottas in a truly gripping finale to the race.

"It was my mistake, that's fine".

As Vettel said on Sunday, Ferrari are coming on strong against Mercedes and now able "to take their magic away and have a fight on an equal level". Within ten laps he was running in the top-ten, within 15 he was snorting into the top-five.

Lobbyists who worked for Qatar hire Mike Flynn
Muzin and Allaham did not comment on Flynn's unresolved legal status nor on his dismissal from the White House past year . Sullivan agreed to the delay Tuesday, saying he didn't want to "micromanage" Flynn's cooperation with prosecutors.

Mercedes opted to keep both of its drivers out when the Safety Car was deployed due to Marcus Ericsson's crash at Turn 1.

In a thrilling race with two safety auto periods, reigning champion Hamilton went from pole position to the rear of the field before finishing second for Mercedes in a superb fightback.

At Silverstone, Hamilton was also sent to the back in the incident, from which he fought back to second place behind Vettel, who now leads the championship from the Briton by eight points.

Starting second on the grid, Vettel benefitted from Hamilton's slow start to stay ahead until the final laps of the race. Funnily enough you start blaming us for doing it on objective but I locked the wheel, unfortunately we touched and we both paid the price for it and that's how it goes sometimes.

"It was very close", said the German.

But in a post released on his Instagram account on Monday, Hamilton said: "Kimi said sorry and I accept it and we move on".

"I would struggle to be that precise to take somebody out".

"I tried everything to not give up the lead, but there was nothing I could do at that point to defend against the others on the fresher tyres". We knew a one-stop was not going to be easy, but we chose to take the risk.
