Deadly bacteria fears: Supermarkets recall frozen vegetables

The food retailer on Tuesday recalled the Frozen Savoury Rice Mix due to concerns over a listeria outbreak in Europe.

UAE supermarkets have recalled frozen products following a listeria outbreak that has killed nine people in Europe.

Anyone with the products in their freezer should return to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of it.

Greenyard says the recall initiative of these products does not imply that they are actually contaminated and stresses its commitment to taking a maximum of precautionary measures as "food safety is Greenyard's number one priority".

Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology food scientist Gary Kennedy said the recall was a necessary but cautious exercise because risk of illness was only present if frozen vegetables with listeria were consumed uncooked by a vulnerable section of the population.

Woolies said other frozen sweetcorn or vegetable products were unaffected.
