Woman celebrating anniversary in Mexico killed by stray bullet

An American tourist has been killed by a stray bullet while holidaying in Mexico with her husband to celebrate their one year wedding anniversary.

- Friends, family, and co-workers of a 27-year-old San Francisco woman shot and killed in Mexico City over the weekend are mourning her loss and remembering her as a handsome, smart, amusing and talented sister, daughter, and wife.

Mirutenko, her husband, and two friends were either eating at a restaurant or on their way out when the shooting occurred. The 46-year-old bouncer from Huixquilucan, who worked at a bar in the nearby Polanco area, was transported to a hospital. No arrests have been made.

Friends and family are now mourning the sudden loss of Ms Mirutenko, who will be flown back to the United States for a burial in Chicago.

"I'd give my life if she could just come back", said her mother, Natalie Mirutenko, to ABC News. "Today we were looking at flowers for the funeral", said Wasyl Mirutenko, Tatiana's father. She was vacationing in Mexico City on a delayed honeymoon trip and celebrating her one-year wedding anniversary.

Her death is the latest in dozens this year across the country which have prompted warnings from the U.S. government to tourists.

Mirutenko was a senior investor relations analyst at biopharmaceutical company, Nektar Therapeutics in San Francisco.

"We extend our honest condolences to friends and family members of the deceased", department spokesman Noel Clay said in an email. An official with the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs confirmed the death.

"Out of respect for the family during this hard time, we have no further comment", the official said. "She was always willing to help on any project across the company and had an incredibly strong work ethic. Many throughout Nektar, and outside the company, valued her positive energy, insight and sheer enthusiasm for life". "She will be incredibly missed by all of us at Nektar Therapeutics", Ruddock said.

Mirutenko's body is set to be flown back to Chicago on Wednesday. On July 1, she posted a photo from her wedding last summer. She will be buried in west suburban Bloomingdale on Saturday.
