Apple removing apps & in-app purchases from iTunes Affiliate Program

Apple takes an axe to its App Affiliate Program

With the launch of the new App Store on both iOS and macOS and their increased methods of app discovery, we will be removing apps from the affiliate program.

That apart, Apple also said another reason they decided against relying on external referrals to its app store is that the iOS and macOS app stores have also been segregated.

British Open: Georgia Hall claims first major victory
She became the first English player of either sex to win a major at Royal Lytham since Tony Jacklin won the 1969 British Open. Meanwhile, New Zealand's Ben Campbell holds a four shot lead after the second round of the Fiji International tournament.

Last year Apple reduced its affiliate partners' commission rates from 7% to 2.5% of the funds generated from iTunes-related purchases, including apps, but that will change October 1, 2018 when it plans to completely remove commissions for iOS and Mac apps and in-app content from the program. Apple claims that the modifications to the iOS and Mac App Stores have ensured more methods of driving app discovery. Movies, TV, Mac apps, Mac in-apps, iBooks, and paid apps now earn a 7 percent commission rate while iOS in-app purchases and iTunes Music earn a 2.5 percent commission rate. The elimination of app referral payments should be a warning to any company that makes money from referrals for other content like music, movies, books and TV. The affiliate program will still be available for music, movies, books, and TV purchases. Those who are unaware, the Apple Affiliate Program allows individuals, bloggers, and YouTubers to link an app to blogs and videos and earn a fixed commission if someone buys the app using that link.

The services business has been a real growth engine for the company as it seeks to reach $50 billion in yearly revenue by 2020 from the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Pay and iCloud storage. The changes are due to take effect on October 1.
