Central Otago $22.3m Lotto winner claims prize

Two winners claim Division one $100 million Powerball jackpot

"I said, 'Mate - I think I've won Powerball... is this real?'" the victor said.

The entry was bought in Sydney's south in the Canterbury-Bankstown area.

"While two entries won the coveted division one prize, more than 3.79 million other divisional prizes worth $66.6 million were won tonight", Mr Hart said.

Minutes before the draw was aired on TV, the site's error page declared: "It's not you, it's us!"

The Lott spokesman Matt Hart encouraged those who bought an entry in the region to check their tickets.

The numbers drawn on Thursday were 33, 3, 32, 13, 27, 35 and 31.

The Victorian winner wasn't even watching his winning numbers being called out.

Erik Prince's proposal to privatize Afghanistan war not under consideration, NSC says
And a senior State Department official said there's "not a chance" it will be adopted. He gave the Pentagon what they wanted.

Officials have narrowed down the search for Sydney's Powerball victor after two division one entries won equal shares in the $100 million prize on Thursday night.

However, the winner's identities remain a mystery as the Sydney entrant was unregistered, while the online Victorian entrant hadn't supplied complete contact details.

As well as being the biggest prize claimed in the South Island, it is the largest prize won so far this year. "I thought that would be pretty sweet, so I bought a ticket through the Lotto NZ App and didn't think any more of it", said the victor.

Australian Gambling Research Centre manager Rebecca Jenkinson said three factors were at play in luring people to play a lottery.

"The reason we've seen queues out the door is we've all got that hope and it's nice to dream", Dr Jenkinson told AAP.

A lot of Aussies would have been choosing their numbers very carefully for the draw, while others would have gone for the random approach and left it up to fate. "Then I saw all six numbers circled and lined up in a row and didn't really know what to think - then the Powerball came as well", said the victor.

The next chance to win big will be the $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw on September 1.
