Chipotle to retrain workers after Ohio illnesses
Health officials in OH on Thursday faulted a toxin that occurs when food is left at unsafe temperatures for an illness that struck 647 customers of a Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant in the state.
Health officials said 647 people had self-reported gastrointestinal symptoms after eating there between July 26 and July 30.
The Delaware General Health District said Thursday that food samples from the store tested negative for clostridium perfringens, but stool samples came back positive for the toxin it forms.
The officials have not identified the specific food that was the illness' source, and there will be ongoing food and stool testing at the CDC lab.
"While this incident impacted only one restaurant, Chipotle field leadership will be retraining all restaurant employees nationwide beginning next week on food safety and wellness protocols", Niccol said.
He also said restaurants would be adding a "recurring employee knowledge assessment" to their daily food-safety routines.

Those 2015 cases included E. coli linked to Chipotle restaurants that sickened at least 50 people in 12 states, and a norovirus outbreak at a Boston College restaurant that affected another 140 customers.
Chipotle said it will retrain workers as a result.
Customers had last month complained of food poisoning and diarrhea after eating tacos and burrito bowls at the Powell, Ohio Chipotle restaurant.
Chipotle shares reversed course to fall 3.8 percent on Thursday afternoon after hitting a two-year high earlier. For example, beans were not held at a warm enough temperature, and lettuce was not properly cooled, Business Insider reported.
Health officials have inspected nearby Chipotle restaurants since the illness outbreak and found additional violations. "Examples are proper handwashing, proper hot and cold temperatures, cooking and prep procedures, etcetera".
