Disney Streaming Service Won't Include Pre-2019 Star Wars Films

Disney's upcoming streaming service won't try to compete directly with Netflix and Amazon, but will focus instead on quality - namely original programs from Disney's "Star Wars", Pixar, and Marvel brands. Netflix and Hulu have the market on lock at the moment, but once Disney pulls all their content from those services and launches their own, things may change.

Now a new article in the New York Times reveals that the ten-episode first season of the Favreau Star Wars series will have a combined budget of $100 million, making each episode roughly $10 million a piece. Also, tv show spinoffs for Lady and The Tramp, Monsters Inc.

They also plan to produce four to five original movies a year for the service.

Turns out bringing the galaxy far, far away as we've seen it on the big screen for decades to a streaming service is going to require more than a few galactic credits.

This confirms what has been suspected all along, that the streaming rights would kick over for all of Disney's movies starting in 2019 and beyond. Adjusted earnings per share totaled $1.87, less than the Street's expectation of $1.95.

Disney shares have risen slightly more than 8 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen nearly 7 percent.
