European Tour Pay Wrong Tommy Fleetwood €133k Open Prize Money

Tommy Fleetwood tied for 12th at the Open Championship

And the latter Fleetwood's account is apparently where the former Fleetwood's British Open winnings were deposited.

If you follow golf at all you might recognize the name; British pro Tommy Fleetwood is now ranked 11th in the world and is a trendy pick for this weekend's PGA Championship at Bellerive in St. Louis.

However, the world number 11 was left waiting for the sum to be deposited to his account after the European Tour, which handles payments for the event, mistakenly sent it to a U.S. club pro golfer of the same name.

The American Fleetwood was with his friend Greg Thorner when he got a shock to see the windfall on his account statement, straight after a supermarket payment of US$14.37.

It is believed the European Tour, who along with the PGA Tour are in charge of sending out prize money to the players, already had the former pro's bank account details because he had competed in Challenger Events in Europe decades ago.

The European Tour have apologised after Tommy Fleetwood's Open winnings of nearly £120,000 were sent to the wrong Tommy Fleetwood.

Paul Scholes: Jose Mourinho must start the season well
The pair were asked to pick their Premier League predictions ahead of the new season. The home game was a little bit different with Mané getting sent off.

Open Tommy Fleetwood, meanwhile, wasn't sweating the mistake.

For once, a pro golfer got to call a penalty on tournament officials, rather than the other way around.

The elder Fleetwood is now reportedly in the process of returning the money to the World No. 11 Fleetwood, but at least he can now probably say he's received more money as a pro than any of his colleagues.

The tour have apologised to both Fleetwoods, while the better known one's wife and manager Clare was off to check their bank account.

Fleetwood, who begins his PGA Championship bid at Bellerive on Thursday, said: "It looks pretty genuine".

"It's just something I don't really look at but I'll get on top of that!"
