Greek teen Tsitsipas upsets defending champ Zverev

Alexander Zverev

Tsitsipas, who will move to at least 15th in the rankings, was the first unseeded finalist in Canada since Nicolas Kiefer in 2008 and will take heart from a phenomenal week having become the youngest man to beat four top-10 players at the same tournament.

Tsitsipas will play his first ATP Masters 1000 final on his 20th birthday on Sunday against world No 1 Nadal after the Spaniard defeated Karen Khachanov 7-6 (3) 6-4 in their rain-delayed evening match.

Tsitsipas beat Anderson after topping world No.3 and defending champion Alexander Zverev, 10th-ranked Novak Djokovic and Austrian world No.8 Dominic Thiem in the preceding three rounds.

As always, though, we have to trust the process, and Tsitsipas' second consecutive victory when saving match point gives him the chance of his first Masters 1000 level title tonight, with his match against Rafa Nadal scheduled to start at 21:00 United Kingdom time this evening.

Tsitsipas fired an ace at 7-7 before converting his third match point of the deciding tiebreaker when Anderson's return sailed long. He has passion for the game.

Tsitsipas worked for two hours, 48 minutes to secure his upset of the hard-serving South African, with Anderson going down with 10 aces.

"I'm capable of doing anything on the court and beating any opponent", he said.

Confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh to begin September 4
If Brett Kavanaugh was fit to be on the Supreme Court, Senate Republicans would have no issue releasing his full records. He wrote, "We believe an indictment should not be pursued while the President is in Office".

Under a blazing afternoon sun, Tsitsipas and Anderson relied on their service games in the opening set on the showcase hardcourt.

Halep took a dramatic first set in a tie-break after three breaks of service apiece, but lost the second before recovering in the decider.

At 1-1 in the second set, Tsitsipas won a long rally at deuce and completed the break when Anderson pushed a return wide. He fought back from a break point again in the eighth and the set went all the way to a tiebreak. One thing is certain, Tsitsipas will give his best to topple another big opponent and claim the first ATP title at one of the biggest tournaments in the calendar. "I stayed positive, kept fighting, and the match became a little more ugly after that".

The outcome over Anderson was decided in a tight third-set tiebreaker, with Tsitsipas blowing his first two winning chances with a double-fault and a forehand error.

"Sometimes when you concentrate too much, you lose the reality of what's happening", he said with a laugh. "You'll get that from me many more times". The 32-year-old Spaniard wrapped up the match just after midnight local time.

The top-seeded Nadal will play Karen Khachanov, a 6-3, 6-1 victor over Robin Haase.

Second-seeded Henri Kontinen of Finland and Australian John Peers edged Croatia's Nikola Mektic and Austria's Alexander Peya 7-6 (2), 4-6, 12-10 in the other semi. It's expected to be the last competitive appearance for the 45-year-old Toronto player.
