Judge Orders Return Of Deported Asylum-Seekers

Judge orders government to turn around deportation plane

"The level of disrespect for the judiciary, the unprofessionalism of the Justice Department attorneys and the just plain stupidity of the litigation strategy under Jeff Sessions is just simply stunning".

The lawsuit, involving a dozen asylum-seekers - Carmen and her daughter, the eight still in custody, and four others who have also already been removed - was filed Tuesday by the ACLU and Center for Gender & Refugee Studies.

"He should be [held in contempt]", Schmidt said, responding to Tur's description of a judge's threat to hold Sessions in contempt over the deportation.

"This is pretty outrageous", he said according to the Post.

Her asylum attempt appeared to have been thwarted by new rules introduced by the Trump administration in June, which block courts from granting asylum to victims of domestic abuse and gang violence.

The woman - identified in court as Carmen - is a plaintiff in a lawsuit filed this week against the administration by the American Civil Liberties Union over efforts to prevent immigrants from seeking asylum because of domestic and gang violence in their home countries.

"I'm not happy about this at all", he said. "Turn the plane around", U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan said in court, telling Justice Department lawyers, "This is not acceptable", according to the Washington Post.

Julian Assange ‘considering’ testifying in US Russia meddling probe
WikiLeaks on Wednesday posted on Twitter an image of the letter , which was signed by the committee's chairman, North Carolina Sen.

A DHS official said in a statement that the department is "complying with the court's order, and upon arrival in El Salvador, the plaintiffs will not disembark and will be promptly returned to the United States". He also threatened to hold Attorney General Jeff Sessions in contempt. Further, a gang held her at gunpoint in May and demanded she pay a monthly "tax" or they would kill her and her daughter.

The government had pledged not to deport anyone in the case before Friday at the earliest, the ACLU said.

"We also have dirty immigration lawyers who are encouraging their otherwise unlawfully present clients to make false claims of asylum, providing them with the magic words needed to trigger the credible fear process", Sessions said past year.

Named in the ACLU's lawsuit are Sessions, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Lee Cissna and Executive Office for Immigration Review Director James McHenry.

But their case was halted when officers found they did not have a "credible fear of persecution".

What happened to Carmen embodies exactly why the stay is necessary: This administration has shown time and time again that in its rush to deport as many immigrants as possible, they will flout the law and callously put the most vulnerable people's lives in danger.
