A total of 10 people were injured, including two children, when a gunman opened fire on crowds in Claremont Road in the early hours of this morning. It isn't clear whether the shooting was targeted or whether the shots were fired at random.

Detective Superintendent Debbie Dooley was quoted by Sky as saying a number of people were in hospital being treated for various injuries, none of which were believed to be life-threatening.

"The area is being searched and examined while we are also trying to speak to as many people as possible and are reviewing CCTV to get all the facts".

Several people were in the area following the Caribbean Carnival, which had finished some hours before, the force said.

Officers are now trying to establish exactly where the shooting took place and the identity of those involved.

She said extra officers would be on patrol to ease the concerns of residents.
