Redskins Rookie Derrius Guice Out For Season With Torn ACL

Final wet prep for preseason opener

The diagnosis ends his rookie season nearly immediately after it had begun. Initially, the Redskins were optimistic that Guice had only sprained his MCL, and the former LSU star was in good spirits after the game, telling reporters, "all is well".

On Guice's sixth carry of the night, he was tackled from behind and stayed on the ground. This is a huge blow to a Washington offense that was expecting big things from Guice, the No. 59 overall pick in this year's draft. Some guys need modification for one reason or another.

Manchester United transfer woes summed up by Gary Neville's old tweet
Martin Fisher: Jose Mourinho rarely smiled last season and his expression hasn't changed after a summer of frustration . Mourinho has been quite vocal regarding some of his playing squad, or lack of should I say.

Prior to Guice's injury, Washington's running back situation was in a bit of a "three-for-all" in terms of who will see the majority of touches behind veteran Chris Thompson, a 5-foot-8, 195-pound back better utilized in the passing game. He played sparingly previous year, and likely won't see his role increase that much as a result of Guice's injury. Kelley, a 2016 undrafted free agent who began last season as the starter, has gone from "Fat Rob" to "Fit Rob" and should now be considered the front-runner.

Guice ran with bad intentions in his career with the Tigers, averaging north of 4.0 yards after contact per attempt in each of his first two seasons with the team (2015-16). The Redskins also announced tight end Manasseh Garner suffered an ACL injury during Thursday's game and will also miss the 2018 season.
