"I can play my singles, do my best in my singles, then worry about the doubles when we have to".

Top-seeded Halep won four of the match's first five games, and broke Barty twice before the 22-year-old Australian registered her first, and lone, break in the sixth game.

Barty, the world No. 16, has eclipsed her previous best at the tournament, a place in the last 16 when it was held in Toronto past year.

Barty will play the Romanian for the first time after dispatching Kiki Bertens 6-3 6-1 in less than an hour to extend her flawless record over the Dutchwoman to two matches.

Halep will play for the title Sunday against the victor of the semifinal between third-seeded Sloane Stephens and fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina.

"I was very sore when I woke up", Halep said.

Japan economy returns to black after first dip in two years
Japan's economy expanded at an annualized rate of 1.9 percent in the April-June quarter, government data showed Friday. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP grew 0.5 per cent, versus the median estimate for a 0.3 per cent increase.

"We played a good match", Stephens said of their showdown at Roland Garros.

She had an opportunity to hold serve on a game point that would have made it 4-5, but Stephens survived that and then asserted herself with a piercing backhand down the line to bring up another break point, Svitolina later dragging a backhand rally ball wide to succumb.

Barty was in trouble on her opening service game, an error giving French Open champion Halep a break point which she duly converted with a superb backhand crosscourt victor. "I played some slices". Making the finals here is incredible. "She's the world No1 for a reason but I'm just going to go out there and try to get her". The Ukrainian even got a service break to close the gap to 5-3, but Stephens broke right back to take the set.

Barty grabbed a consolation break of serve to make it 4-2, but was unable to claw back another break as Halep took the first set 6-4.

The American baseliner broke again for 3-1 in the second set and closed it out in 1:38. Really pleased with that.
