SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral

Merah Putih satellite

This rocket was used to place Indonesia's Merah Putih satellite into orbit and that payload was offloaded 32 minutes after launch, heralding the mission a complete success.

SpaceX conducted its first relaunch of the Block 5 Falcon 9 rocket August 7, successfully delivering a communications satellite into a geostationary transfer orbit for Telkom Indonesia. The name refers to the red and while colors of Indonesia's flag.

However, Musk admitted that this is likely to be a major challenge, noting that "there's only so much work you could even do in one day, and a bunch of it consists of transporting the rocket from its landing site back to the launch site, mounting a new satellite on the rocket and loading propellant". With Tuesday's flight, SpaceX's record stands at at 60 successful Falcon 9 launches, with 28 successful booster recoveries, 12 on land and 16 on droneships.

A two-hour backup launch window opens on Wednesday, August 8 at 1:18 a.m. EDT Falcon 9's first stage for the Merah Putih mission previously supported the Bangabandhu Satellite-1 mission in May 2018. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has called Block 5 "the most reliable rocket ever built".

Seconds before touchdown, four legs deployed and the rocket settled to an on-target landing.

'Mighty Ducks' star Shaun Weiss arrested for public intoxication
According to TMZ Sports, actor Shaun Weiss was arrested early Sunday morning on public intoxication charges in Oroville, Calif. Police say he was doing things like " shining a light in his own face " and they suspected he may have been high.

SpaceX was expected to conduct more invasive and time-consuming inspections on the first returned Block 5 booster, and three months after its first launch, the stage is ready to go again.

A few minutes after separation, three of the first stage's nine engines re-ignited to slow the booster for entry back into the discernible atmosphere, using four titanium "grid fins" at the top of the rocket to maintain its orientation and trajectory.

If launch remains set for August 23, liftoff is scheduled for a window opening at 11:33 p.m. EDT (0333 GMT on August 24).

The new satellite will replace the aging Telkom 1 satellite, which has been in operation since 1999.

"Satellite plays a vital role in our telecommunications infrastructure", said Zulhelfi Abidin, chief technology officer of Telkom Indonesia, in a press release earlier this year. The satellite will provide Internet, telephone and cellular backhaul services, according to SSL.
