Steve Jobs' 'secret' daughter writes memoir about their troubled relationship

Who is Lisa Brennan-Jobs the daughter of Steve Jobs

The entrepreneur's brutal honesty was a common occurrence when he spoke to his daughter, a quality of their relationship that Brennan-Jobs believes stemmed from his shame over her birth.

While the full excerpt is well worth your time to read over at Vanity Fair, one chunk of text further reminds us of the kind of person the Apple co-founder was at the time, far from the person the world saw towards the end of his life.

Jobs chose his baby daughter's name - Lisa, but for the next two years he contributed nothing else.

In her upcoming book "Small Fry", Lisa Brennan-Jobs bares all on her tumultuous relationship with her father and longtime Apple CEO who at first went to lengths to deny paternity, Business Insider reported. Jobs publicly denied he was her father until 1980, when the San Mateo district attorney forced him to take a paternity test and provide child support.

Stating that she had only ever wanted to have a normal relationship with her father, Lisa said Jobs was often emotionally distant, brutally honest and not empathetic.

Her father showed up around once a month, driving a black Porsche convertible while his child and ex-partner struggled to get by.

Lisa had told her friends about her namesake, but to her dismay, they hadn't heard about Apple's Lisa.

Steve Jobs named the Lisa computer after his daughter

Ms Brennan-Jobs claims her father once told her she would be "getting nothing".

According to Chrisann, Jobs "started to seed people with the notion that I slept around and he was infertile, which meant that this could not be his child".

During one of those visits, the girl finally found the courage to ask her father if she could have his vehicle once he was finished with it - an innocent question from a child that sparked a vicious reply. "I tried to sound like I was curious, nothing more", she writes. "You understand? Nothing. You're getting nothing". 'Absolutely not, ' he said in such a sour, biting way that I knew I'd made a mistake. "My existence ruined his streak", she wrote. I didn't know. His voice hurt-sharp, in my chest, Brennan-Jobs recounts.

When she and her father met U2 frontman Bono for lunch during the trip, she writes that the musician asked her father whether the Lisa computer was named after her.

The coldness from her father and his new family - wife Laurene Powell and their three children, Eve, Reed and Erin Jobs - remained, even as Jobs was dying.

You'd think someone as loaded as Jobs would concede to this request, but if you did, then you don't know much about Steve Jobs.
