The Stakes: TJ Dillashaw vs. Cody Garbrandt II

TJ Dillashaw defeats Cody Garbrandt at UFC 227

Dillashaw retained his UFC bantamweight title and put a cap on his bitter rivalry with Garbrandt by dropping him with a big right hand and finishing him with strikes at 4:10 of the first round in the main event of UFC 227 at Staples Center.

Cody Garbrandt has the reputation as a big puncher, but for the second time in as many fights, it was T.J. Dillashaw doing most of the damage.

For whatever reasons, American fight fans, both in boxing and MMA, tend to not get as excited over the smaller guys. "I'm going up and I want that belt too".

At UFC 217, Dillashaw was knocked down late in the first round and might have only been saved by the bell. Garbrandt will look to match Dillashaw as a two-time champion, whereas Dillashaw will try to cement his legacy with another victory. Both fighters are terrific strikers so this should be a fight with both standing up almost the entirety.

Dillashaw was fluid, he was quicker to the shot and above all else, he was consistently dominant against the Brazilian who hadn't lost in his last 32 fights - showing a level of composure facing a pound-for-pound great that will see him live long in the memory as the man behind one of the sport's greatest upset wins.

In the co-main event, Demetrious Johnson (27-2-1) puts his flyweight belt on the line - he remains the only flyweight champion in UFC history (fairly new division) - against No. 1 contender Henry Cejudo (12-2). I want to fight the victor at 135 pounds and I deserve it. Demetrious Johnson didn't go up and they don't have to come down. Johnson delivered leg kicks and outworked Cejudo. Johnson has not tasted defeat since 2011 while racking up 11 straight title defenses along the way.

Between rounds, Cejudo's corner urged their fighter to draw on his Olympic Gold wrestling experience and take Johnson down. With 2 minutes remaining in round 1, Cody catches Dillashaw with a possible knockdown only to be followed by a definite knockdown by Dillashaw.

There has been speculation of a Johnson vs. Dillashaw dual title fight if all breaks right Saturday.
