Trump says his son sought information on Clinton from Russians in 2016

Counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice at Regent University in Virginia Beach Va

While the president has not said much in public about his son's actions, it appears as if this is not at all the case in private.

This morning, President Trump tweeted out an admission that contradicts over years worth of statements his team has made about the nature of the June 9, 2016 Trump Tower meeting.

But Tapper and other Sunday pundits also noted that Trump's morning "enemy of the people" rants also acknowledged that the Trump Tower meeting attended by, among others, his son and a Russian government lawyer was created to get information on Hillary Clinton.

As the investigation moves along, it will be interesting to note what reaction the president may have, if in fact it appears that Don Jr. may be a target or a subject of the Mueller Probe.

Trump has said similar things about the June 2016 meeting.

In a tweet about that report on Sunday, Trump said, "This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere".

"I make this joke that ... no matter what the legal team recommends, if we recommend that the president were to give the interview, which I think the inclination is not at this point ... you're going to get 12 lawyers on there saying I can't believe that Sekulow and Giuliani and all the other lawyers allowed the president to do it", Sekulow said. While originally Trump, a Republican, said the meeting was about adoptions, on Sunday he said on Twitter that it was about getting information on his election opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The lawyer told Stephanopoulos that discussions over whether the president should sit for an interview with Mueller are "ongoing".

Head of Syria research centre killed in auto bombing
An Israeli government official declined to comment on reports of Asber's death when asked by the Reuters news agency. The research centre that Asber led in the western city of Masyaf has previously been targeted by air strikes.

He concluded by further distancing himself from the meeting his son arranged, writing: "I did not know about it!"

President Trump himself seemed to shrug it off, saying in July 2017 that, "from a practical standpoint, most people would have taken that meeting".

He defended calling the media "The Enemy of the People", and said journalists "purposely cause great division & distrust" and can "cause War!" Trump has seethed against what he feels are trumped-up charges against his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, whose trial began last week and provided a visible reminder of Mueller's work.

Trump publicly denied that it was even possible to know who had stolen the emails, at times blaming it on other countries, a 400-pound man sitting in his bed or someone from New Jersey.

Not all conservatives got on board with the new love of Russian Federation, however, as the American Enterprise Institute's Norman Ornstein made clear.

This is something Trump has said regularly about the Trump Tower meeting, and something he has re-upped now that Michael Cohen is reportedly telling people that Trump did know about it. Last week, Trump's national security team said Russian Federation was behind "pervasive" attempts to interfere in November 2018 congressional elections. Mueller was appointed to take over the probe after the firing.

They later reversed course in a memo to Mueller and said Trump was indeed behind the statement that omitted the prospect of collecting dirt on Clinton. It was at the New Jersey golf club where a brooding Trump has unleashed other inflammatory attacks and where, in spring 2017, he made the final decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, the move that triggered the Russian Federation probe.
