Butler, Holmgren among 2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame nominees

The former Kansas City Chiefs' tight end, who will be enshrined in the Chiefs Ring of Honor during Kansas City's Thursday Night Football matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers on December 13, was named one of 102 Modern Era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Thursday.

There are four first-year eligible players among the nominees: tight end Tony Gonzalez, linebacker London Fletcher, cornerback Champ Bailey and safety Ed Reed. A college basketball and football star at California, he was drafted 13th overall by the Chiefs in 1997 and played a dozen seasons in Kansas City. He ranks second in National Football League history with 1,325 receptions and is the Chiefs' career record holder for receptions (916) and receiving yards (10.940).

Reed and Bailey were standout defensive backs for stout units.

Sharpe had 169 career receptions, 2,497 receiving yards and 17 career touchdowns.
