Matthew Perry Reveals He's Spent '3 Months in a Hospital Bed' Following Gastrointestinal Surgery

It was not clear when Matthew Perry could be released from the hospital for his latest bout with gastrointestinal issues.

It is not clear whether he has been discharged from hospital, but a statement from his rep said: "He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals".

On Friday, Perry appeared to announce that he was feeling better, as he tweeted, "Three months in a hospital bed".

"That's why you've been so quiet", one fan wrote. Glad you've made a decision to update us", and: "I am so glad to see your tweet!

Matthew Perry of Friends has revealed that he spent the last three months in hospital after undergoing surgery for a serious health condition. I wish you a speedy recovery.

A gastrointestinal perforation or ruptured bowel occurs when a hole develops in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract and can be caused by illnesses such as Crohn's disease, colitis and appendicitis.

Symptoms include severe abdominal pain.

Perry has been open about his past health struggles, including battles with addiction to alcohol and Vicodin.

"I'm an award-winning alcoholic", Perry told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Eventually things got so bad that I couldn't hide it, and then everybody knew".

Over time, Matthew worked hard towards sobriety and now owns his own sober-living facility named Perry House.

Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the iconic USA sitcom, would often turn up to work hungover, leading his Friends co-stars - including Jennifer Aniston - begging him to get help.

Friends ended in 2004, but fans rejoiced when all 10 series were brought to Netflix in January this year.
