Man, 26, dies after being attacked by a shark in Cape Cod

Shark attack kills man at Cape Cod beach, the first such fatality in Massachusetts in 82 years

Wellfleet police Lt. Michael Hurley told The Associated Press that the victim was a man in his mid-20s, but his identity has not been disclosed.

The beach was closed to swimmers but the type of shark involved in the attack is not yet known.

Reynolds said Seashore rangers and Wellfleet police performed CPR on the victim on the beach after the bite.

Witnesses say the man was boogie boarding with a friend when the shark aggressively attacked.

He said he saw a "giant eruption of water" and a "lot of trashing" at the time of the harrowing attack. The man's friend had to drag him to shore.

"I saw a worst nightmare unfold here", Booth said. Booth said. "It was like right out of that movie Jaws. This has turned into Amity Island real quick out here".

The death came after increasing numbers of shark sightings and warnings about the danger of the predators off Cape Cod waters this summer, and followed an attack on August 15 that severely injured a 61-year-old NY man. Great white sharks, apex predators, inhabit the waters off the Cape.

Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother have officially been cancelled
Earlier in the year, Channel 5 boss Ben Frow revealed that the reality show's contract runs out later this year. In recent years the show has been overshadowed in both ratings and press coverage by ITV2's Love Island.

Picariello and two other off-duty Wellfleet lifeguards were at Newcomb Hollow at the time of the attack and assisted with medical help.

According to off-duty lifeguard Adriana Picariello, the man had injuries to his lower extremities and no pulse while he was being tended to on the beach.

Mr Booth said the attack victim and his friend were boogie-boarding when the attack happened.

He sustained severe injuries to his legs and is still recovering in hospital. "Right spot, wrong time, I guess". Great White Sharks are predators and should be considered risky.

"It is my personal belief that the responsibility for this terrible shark attack rests squarely upon the shoulders of the aforementioned officials for their utter lack of attention and inaction regarding the growing shark problem on Cape Cod of the last few years", he said.

Barnstable County Commissioner Ron Beaty released a statement following Saturday's attack, saying he hopes the incident will result in the "formation of an official task force made up of key federal, state, regional, and local officials as well as relevant experts, to fully and completely address the Cape Cod shark problem".
