We will remind, on 21 October, pirates attacked the container ship Demeter in the Gulf of Guinea to the South from the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt.

A Swiss-operated ship has been attacked off the coast of Nigeria, Switzerland's foreign ministry said late Saturday, amid reports that 12 crew members had been kidnapped by pirates.

More than 60 crew were reported kidnapped a year ago in waters off Nigeria, Africa's leading crude producer, although many attacks are not reported.

"The pirate gang boarded the Glarus by means of long ladders and cut the razor wire on deck to gain access to the vessel and eventually the bridge", the company said.

It said the attack happened around 45 nautical miles southwest of Bonny Island.

Grassley said the Senate Judiciary Committee has offered to hold a hearing with Ford in any format, time and place of her choice. He said he was "disturbed" to hear that she had been facing threats and harassment but urged her to speak before the committee.

Massoel Shipping issued a statement saying it was working with authorities and specialists to ensure a rapid release of those detained.

Switzerland's foreign ministry said Massoel had confirmed that none of those kidnapped were from the country itself, Reuters reports.

The company added that, after destroying much of the ship's communications equipment, the gang departed with 12 of the crew members.

Seven other crew members were on board the Massoel Shipping vessel Glarus at the time.

Nigerian officials say they are now investigating the incident.
