These Photos of Hurricane Florence From Space Are Mind Boggling

WATCH: Space Station's view of Hurricane Florence looks eerily apocalyptic

Additionally, European Space Agency astronaut Alexander Gerst took to Twitter on Wednesday to share photos of the hurricane from space, while stressing the severity of the storm.

"The National Hurricane Middle forecasts extra strengthening for Florence earlier to it reaches the shoreline of North Carolina and SC early Friday, Sept. 14", NASA wrote within the description of the video.

Florence is expected to strike North Carolina's coast on Friday, then drift southwest before moving inland on Saturday, according to Miami's National Hurricane Center (NHC).

NASA shared photos Wednesday showing the unsafe storm from the International Space Station.

Florence is about 644 kilometres wide and it's winds have dropped from a peak of 225 km/h to 165 km/h, reducing the hurricane from a terrifying Category 4 to a Category 2.

Hurricane Florence Produces Wind Gusts Near 100 miles per hour in Eastern North Carolina
ET, Florence was centred about 135 kilometres east-southeast of Wilmington, its forward movement slowed to seven km/h. Even if Florence were downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane , it would still cause extensive damage , Abrams says.

Gerst went on to add that seeing the hurricane is chilling, even from space, and shared an additional of three pictures that speak for themselves.

Another photo (embedded below) was snapped on September 10 by astronaut Ricky Arnold while aboard the International Space Station.

It is estimated that the wind speed in the eye of the hurricane reaches more than 200 kilometers per hour.

Following Hurricane Florence are two more powerful storms crossing the Atlantic, namely Tropical Storm Isaac and Hurricane Helene.

In the past, NASA has leveraged its technology and resources to help with hurricane relief efforts.
