Trevor Noah Shatters Sen. Orrin Hatch's Defense Of Brett Kavanaugh

WASHINGTON- JUNE 01 Brett Kavanaugh speaks as U.S. President George W. Bush looks on during a ceremony of Kavanaugh to be sworn in as a judge to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia at the Rose Garden of the

"Their reckless behavior will do lasting damage to Dr. Ford, to Judge Kavanaugh, and to the public trust", he wrote. But I can only say this: "he's such an outstanding man - very hard for me to imagine that anything happened", Trump told reporters.

Fellow Republican Susan Collins of ME said she hoped Prof Ford would "reconsider and testify" on Monday.

Those assessments are certain to be challenged if Ford agrees to testify before the Republican-dominated Senate Judiciary Committee about the night, more than three decades ago, when she says a stumbling-drunk Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed, groped her, ground his body against hers and covered her mouth when she tried to scream.

Trump blamed Democrats for the delay weeks before the USA midterm congressional elections on November 6, but he said there was enough time to get his pick confirmed before the elections.

"I am issuing this statement today to make it clear to all involved that I have no knowledge of the party in question; nor do I have any knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has leveled against Brett Kavanaugh".

A restrained Trump said Wednesday he wants to hear what Ford has to say. They said her family had relocated.

The Senate Judiciary Committee completed confirmation hearings for nominee Brett Kavanaugh on September 7. Senators, he said, will have to determine if Ford's account of the event meets the threshold to declare Kavanaugh unfit to serve on the Supreme Court.

Colleagues Describe Kavanaugh Accuser Christine Blasey Ford as Honest and Rigorous
Her lawyers said Tuesday night that Christine Blasey Ford wants the FBI to investigate her claim first before any Senate hearing. They also backed Ford's call for an FBI investigation and hinted they may not attend the hearing if she does not testify.

He added that Kavanaugh was "anxious" to answer the accusations against him, while acknowledging that the testimony would hold up his confirmation. They say it was easy to mobilize: a chain of friends calling, texting and emailing friends from a Washington-area world where many still live and see each other.

"There are gaps in her memory", the Senate's No. 2 Republican, John Cornyn of Texas, said, referring to details Ford has said she can't remember. Unable to get an interview with Ford, they started interviewing neighbors.

Julie DeVol told AP she didn't really anticipate the letter would provoke such intense interest, though she sensed Kavanaugh's critics "would do anything" to delay his confirmation vote.

In a statement posted on Twitter, McCaskill said her decision is not based on recent allegations that Kavanaugh, now a federal judge, assaulted a girl in high school, which Kavanaugh denies.

"Guess who is perpetrating all of these kinds of actions?" Kirsten Gillibrand called the allegation "disqualifying" and said she believes Ford.

Trump echoed that argument, saying that the FBI doesn't investigate claims like Blasey Ford's and noting that Kavanaugh has passed previous vettings for federal posts. "He was the kid who always did the right thing".

"She hardly expected to be revictimized and retraumatized", Hirono said. In the email, Kavanaugh wrote, "And I have heard very few people say that limits on contributions to candidates are unconstitutional although I for one tend to think those limits have some constitutional problems".
