Umpires Reportedly Considering Boycott Of Future Serena Williams Matches

Are there different standards for men and women in tennis? The USTA head says

The Serena Williams controversy has stirred resentment among tennis umpires ― and they are considering a boycott of her future matches, according to reports.

Naomi Osaka is set to ink two huge deals less than a week after her controversial U.S. Open victory.

She briefly disputed that ruling, saying cheating "is the one thing I've never done, ever" - although afterward, her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, acknowledged he was trying to send Williams a signal.

Ramos is deemed one of the more experienced umpires in the game with nearly 30 years of experience but for overseeing the Grand Slam final he received a fee of just £370 - a standard daily rate.

"For me, I'm just me", said Osaka, when asked whether she represented a "new Japan". Williams in the moment blamed sexism, sparking a debate about the way female tennis players are judged. She was unphased by facing her idol in the women's final at Flushing Meadows, in front of a crowd that was overwhelmingly partial to the 36-year-old Williams - who lost her cool during the match and repeatedly confronted the umpire after she was given multiple code violations. "I am good, under the circumstances", he told the paper.

"I'm so proud of her", said Hiromi Shibata, a 32-year-old Tokyo resident and tennis fan.

The potential stance comes after the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and United States Tennis Association (USTA) supported the athlete following her claims of sexism against chair umpire Carlos Ramos in the final.

They released Opposite You , an album of duets, in 2005, and wrote an autobiographical cabaret show titled He Said/She Said . She met Danieley when both appeared in the Off Broadway 1996 production Trojan Women: A Love Story .

However, others supported the official, who is among the most experienced in the sport, with the International Tennis Federation ITF saying he had acted with "professionalism and integrity" in the final.

Williams received a second penalty for throwing her racket to the ground and breaking it after losing a point. The USTA praised Williams for her conduct after the match, whereas WTA CEO Steve Simon said that "there should be no difference in the standards of tolerance provided to the emotions expressed by men vs. women".

Osaka also said that she felt confident going into the match that she would win.

Ramos spoke out for the first time about the fracas, telling the Portuguese newspaper Tribuna Expresso that he was fine.

"You're stressing me out", Osaka quipped, somewhat sheepishly.

Although he does not experience much discrimination these days, he does still get stared at, he said, adding that he hoped the prejudice would eventually fade.
