Alexander Zverev moved one step closer to qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals on Wednesday by winning his opening match at the Rolex Shanghai Masters.

Kyle Edmund continued his strong campaign on the hard courts with a straight-sets win over Nicolas Jarry to reach the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals.

After smashing a backhand victor in the first set, Zverev raised his fist and roared - terrifying the nearby ballkid, who was jolted backwards and popped out his eyes while the German approached.

Edmund will play fourth seed Alexander Zverev in the last eight, after he beat Australia's Alex de Minaur 6-1 6-4. "In the third set I really started to figure it out, as well, how aggressive or how tactical I wanted to make the match". Basilashvili had just won Beijing for his second career ATP title and dismissed Denis Shapovalov in his Shanghai opener before running into Zverev.

"I played alright", Zverev assessed. The Argentine was the most recent player to clinch a berth, which he did last week in Beijing with a runner-up performance.

Indigenous ranger attacked and taken by crocodile in Northern Territory
Initial reports from St John Ambulance indicated the woman was attacked by a saltwater crocodile some time this morning. The woman's body and the crocodile were found just before 5pm, less than one kilometre from the scene.

Zverev, who is two wins away from mathematically clinching a London spot, is looking to join Juan Martin Del Potro at the O2 Arena.

"I think all the top guys will say the same thing".

On Tuesday, Roger Federer, who was a ball boy once himself, came out and said that players much respect the ball kids and unpaid volunteers because "they are also maybe the future of our game".

"I would love to feel better", he added.
