Indonesia earthquake: Huge 6.0 magnitude rocks volcanic Java island

In East Java, three people were crushed to death in their sleep when the quake brought down buildings and damaged some 210 houses in Sumenep district, East Java police spokesman Frans Barung Mangera told AFP.

A magnitude 6.0 natural disaster has struck just off the coast of Indonesia, a country reeling from an quake and tsunami last month that killed more than 2,000 people.

The latest quake hit early Thursday about 157 kilometers (100 miles) northwest of the popular island of Bali, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).

The tremor's epicentre was in the Bali Sea around 40km off the eastern end of Java island, according to the United States Geological Survey. Over 19,000 delegates and guests are present, including Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim.
