Canal Water on the Rise

Burn baby burn

Today at only 1.1° of warming globally, crops and livestock across the region are being hit and hunger is rising, with poor small-scale women farmers, living in rural areas suffering the most.

The United Nations (UN) has reeled out unprecedented changes humanity must make to avoid extinction from catastrophic climate change in twelve years.

As a country badly-hit by climate change, Vietnam has been active in performing worldwide commitments and building plans to respond to climate change.

"We must more than ever continue our efforts".

McCormack said the government won't change policy just because somebody might suggest that some sort of report is the way we need to follow and everything that we should do.

Referring to Monday's special report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which laid out the devastating consequences of a world that fails to keep global warming to 1.5°C, Mr. Guterres told the leaders that it "makes clear that climate change is running faster than we are - and we are running out of time".

"The global community must emerge with critically important implementation guidelines for operationalizing the Paris Agreement", he said, adding that all countries now needed to "heed the counsel of the world's top scientists: raise ambition, rapidly strengthen their national climate action plans, and urgently accelerate implementation of the Paris Agreement". The 2016 El Niño phenomenon, which was super charged by the effects of climate change, crippled rain-fed agricultural production and left over 40 million people foods insecure in Africa.

Facebook says 14m accounts had personal data stolen in recent breach
On Friday, the data gathering biz said a mere 30 million people were robbed of their authentication tokens. For 15 million, the cyberthieves only accessed name and contact information.

However, more than ten countries, including Ireland, showed a lack of appetite for increasing the EU's climate target.

The dramatic report warned that the planet is now heading to warm by 3C - and to slash that to less than 1.5C as laid out in the Paris agreement will require "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society".

He said that the European Union needs to increase its 2030 greenhouse gas emissions target to 45 per cent "to be in line with the IPCC's recommendations on 1.5°C pathways". Under the Paris climate agreement, nations agreed in 2015 that they would take actions to limit global warming to 2°C while striving for the even tougher target of 1.5°C.

The IPCC warned that temperatures were likely to rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius between 2030 and 2052 if global warming continues at its current pace.

He recommended that Vietnam shift into a low-carbon economy, with a focus on the development of renewable energies. Global net emissions of carbon dioxide would need to fall by 45 per cent from 2010 levels by 2030, and reach "net zero" around 2050.

Besides, the country also has a large potential for energy saving of up to 7.0% relative to the business-as-usual, through to year 2035.
