Djokovic outguns Anderson in Shanghai

Super World Cup Novak Djokovic suggests creation of a new tennis event

Borna Coric defeated Matthew Ebden 7-5, 6-4 on Friday to reach the Rolex Shanghai Masters semi-finals and book a clash against the defending champion Roger Federer.

Federer takes to the court second on Saturday's schedule, which has a more pleasant feel to it from a start time perspective, with this starting at 1pm United Kingdom time, after Alexander Zverev versus Novak Djokovic, which begins at 930am.

But he put Nishikori under the cosh immediately, breaking the eighth seed in the first game of both sets, though the Japanese did well to recover and force a second-set tie break.

"I played him when he played well at Indian Wells semis, Halle finals", Federer said.

The first set went with serve, and some big serves at that, until Djokovic grabbed the break to go 4-2 up.

"I thought I was very solid and always made him play an extra shot from the back of the court and I tried to be as convenient, accurate, and efficient on my service games as possible", Djokovic told Sky Sports, after recording his 17th ATP match-win in a row.

The second set followed a similar pattern at the start, the 20-time grand slam victor taking the first game after creating a break-point opportunity with a sizzling backhand return.

Zverev will next play second-seeded Djokovic in the semifinals.

He served as a minister in Mr Mandela's first post-apartheid government, praising the president as a healing figure. His son, Piet Botha confirmed to South African media that his father died in his sleep during the night.

The 31-year-old from Serbia is in blistering form, winning Wimbledon, the Cincinnati Masters and US Open in recent months, after having elbow surgery in February.

Djokovic, this year's Wimbledon and US Open victor, will next face Germany's Alexander Zverev in the last four.

"But also, he has improved a lot, and he has established himself as a top player".

Interestingly, though, that match did have very close data - Federer had eight break points on return, compared to six for Nishikori - while only winning 52% of points in the match, a very low figure for a straight-set victory.

"I'm playing some of my best tennis, especially against Stan (Wawrinka in the first round) and (Juan Martin) Del Potro yesterday before he got injured".

The third-ranked Djokovic taught Zverev a lesson.

Zverev, now under the tutelage of Ivan Lendl, said he is pleased with his overall progress, even if a maiden Grand Slam remains elusive. "Every year you spend on tour, you feel kind of different", he said.

"The one time that I have beaten him comfortably was in Dubai but that was some years ago".
