Tests also showed the specific strain of salmonella that made them sick is resistant to multiple antibiotics, the agency said.

A total of 92 people have been affected nationwide, resulting in 21 hospitalizations and no deaths, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The outbreak has made almost 100 people sick across 29 states, including MI, according to the CDC report.

Epidemiologic and laboratory evidence indicates that many types of raw chicken products from a variety of sources are contaminated with salmonella Infantis and are making people sick. No single common supplier has been identified.

"Always handle raw chicken carefully and cook it thoroughly to prevent food poisoning", the CDC said.

Congo confirms 33 Ebola cases in past week, 24 dies so far
The UN agency identified 39 new confirmed cases were reported between October 1 and October 11, 32 of which were from Beni. The Committee's advice will be made public on WHO's website and via a press conference (details below).

The US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is monitoring the outbreak. Those who have gotten sick all reported eating different types and brands of chicken from different locations, the CDC said.

Because no common supplier has been found, the CDC can not steer people away from any particular source of raw chicken.

Symptoms include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps 12 to 72 hours after being exposed to the bacteria. The CDC does recommend pet owners not feed raw chicken to their animals.

Most people infected with Salmonella recover without treatment, though in rare cases, antibiotics are needed for treatment.
