Ham radio volunteers needed in aftermath of Hurricane Michael

Officials: 35 lives, $1.3 billion in timber lost to Michael

Hurricane Michael is gone but the impact will be felt in devastated communities for years to come.

More than 100,000 Florida customers are still without power due to Hurricane Michael, which tore into the Florida Panhandle more than a week ago. "We are committed to helping Florida recover from this devastating storm and will continue to work closely with the agriculture industry on hurricane-related damage assessments".

Timber operations in Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Leon, Liberty, Wakulla and Washington counties sustained losses, including damage to pulp mills and sawmills, according to the Florida Forest Service, which is under Putnam. Numerous deaths in the heavily timbered Panhandle were from tree falls, while other bodies have been pulled from homes decimated by hurricane-force winds and storm surge.

Trump administration mulls rollback of Obama-era transgender protections, report says
That definition would define someone as either male or female, determined by a person's genitals at birth. The move would roll back protections at all levels of the Federal government for transgender people.

Officials in four states - Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia - have each confirmed people died as a result of the storm. The agency is working to clear the debris and establish fire lines that could help contain forest fire, he said.

For residents of the hurricane-ravaged Florida Panhandle, everyday life is rife with fears, frustrations and the troubles of just trying to get by.

As officials continue to identify bodies recovered since the devastating October 10 storm, a firefighter became the latest death attributed to the storm when he was killed by a falling tree while helping clear debris with family members more than a week after Michael blew ashore with 155 miles per hour (250 kph) winds. Bottled water is plentiful at roadside aid stations; ice is another matter.
