Hawking in Posthumous Book Says Superhumans Will Take Over

Speaking at the launch of the book, "Brief Answers to the Big Questions", at the Science Museum in London, his daughter Lucy Hawking said she liked to think her father would find his final resting place between Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin at Westminster Abbey and he would never be alone again.

The latter could become necessary in the event of catastrophe, the mostly likely being an asteroid strike that wipes out much of life on Earth, writes Hawking, per Quartz.

Hawking, who died aged 76 earlier this year, believed the leap in technology could lead to the end of mankind as we know it.

The book was an attempt to "bring together the most definitive, clearest, most authentic answers that he gave". I think belief in the afterlife is just wishful thinking.

The cosmologist was propelled to stardom by his 1988 book A Brief History of Time, an unlikely worldwide bestseller. Climate change. One "big question" that Hawking answers is whether God exists.

How did it all begin?

'No and yes. In principal the laws allow us to predict the future but in practice it is too hard'.

They include "Is time travel possible?", "Should we colonise space?" and "Is there a God?"

'The Flash' Movie Pushes Production Start Date to Late 2019
But perhaps - ironically in the Flash's case - slow and steady to the big screen could allow the hero to win the race. Miller played the Flash/Barry Allen in Justice League and briefly appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice .

Will artificial intelligence outsmart us? "Unleash your imagination. Shape the future".

This forecast is contained in the book "Short answers to big questions", which Hawking worked shortly before his death, according to Medusa.

He says computers will overtake humans in intelligence during the next 100 years, but "we will need to ensure that the computers have goals aligned with ours".

Stephen Hawking, one of the world's best-known theoretical physicists who died seven months ago, had warned against a new race of "superhumans" created as a result of genetic engineering that could destroy humanity from beyond the grave.

"He was deeply anxious that at a time when the challenges that present themselves are global - and need us to come together and work together - that we were becoming increasingly local in our thinking", Lucy Hawking said.

Stephen Hawking does mention, in his book, that the initial stages of DNA manipulation are going to be beneficiary, as it would be able to cure many diseases.

She said: "It was very emotional".

With tears in her eyes, Lucy Hawking listened to her father's narration over an animation explaining his insights into the paradoxes of black holes: a problem that he was investigating - and publishing research on - right up to his death.
