The 57-year-old actress admitted she would have usually dealt with her medical situation in private, but because work on "Veep" would have to be halted while she sought treatment, she went public with the news and made a decision to try and take a light-hearted approach to battling the disease.

"The Duke will attend the cycling as scheduled this morning, and The Duchess will join him for this afternoon's engagements". Ragland is very happy about this lovely news and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild", the statement read.

"A lot of people worked for me, and I knew I couldn't really keep it private because I had to tell everybody what was going on, and then I just sort of embraced that, and I got a lot of positive feedback", she continued.

She said: "I'm grateful to be alive". But because she had to suspend production on the HBO series, and also saw an opportunity to use her platform to discuss the USA healthcare system, she knew she had to tell her story.

In the months since, she's posted updates on her social media channels.

Back in January, as the actress went in for her last round of chemotherapy she shared a hilarious video her sons - Henry, 26, and Charlie, 21 - recorded to support her during her final procedure. But I got really ill, so I couldn't have ever shot anything during that period of time.

It's inspiring to hear how hard Louis-Dreyfus has been working, and an encouraging sign for fans looking forward to Veep Season 7.
