Japan has the world's 'strongest' passport, according to this index

Taiwan's passport No.29 in the world according to Henley & Partners

It is updated in real-time, as and when visa-policy changes come into effect, according to Henley and Partners.

In the last quarter, the passport was ranked 50 in the world.

The ranking determines how many countries the holder can enter either without a visa or be issued one upon entry.

Thanks to gaining visa-free access to Myanmar this month, Japan has toppled Singapore to claim the top spot for holding the world's most powerful passport.

Singapore featured at No.2 with 189 visa waivers, while Germany lost the top spot to end up at No.3 together with France and South Korea at 188 visa waivers.

On the global stage, Japan is the current passport champion, with Japanese citizens able to access a record total of 190 destinations around the world.

Denmark, Finland, Italy, Spain and Sweden are at the top 4 with visa-free access to 187 destinations.

In this year's ranking, both United Kingdom and USA have slipped the charts with 186 destinations. We're ranked at 75th alongside Azerbaijan, the Dominican Republic, and Tunisia - meaning we have access only to 66 countries visa-free or visa-on-arrival.

Strengthening its position as the passport-power champion of the Middle East, the UAE signed a visa-waiver with Russian Federation in July, which is due to come into effect in the coming months. Russia's recent decision to grant visa-free travel access to not only Emiratis but also citizens of several other nations speaks to this effort.

The UAE has made the most remarkable ascent on the Henley Passport Index, from 62nd place in 2006 to 21st place worldwide now.

That is down 17 places since 2008.

"As the world economy has become increasingly globalised, the need for greater visa-free access has grown steadily", said the Henley Passport Index report.

The Henley Passport Index's ranking "is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world's largest and most accurate database of travel information, and is enhanced by extensive in-house research", said the Henley & Partners' website.
