Jetliner lands in US after world's longest flight

World's longest non-stop flight set for take-off

Singapore Airlines has launched the world's longest non-stop commercial flight.

However, Singapore Airlines is now operating the long-range Airbus A350-900ULR on the route.

Singapore Airlines has held the coveted title before with. wait for it, a non-stop service between Singapore and Newark.

Pier Messaggio, 41, an Italian electronics designer based in Singapore, said he is part of a group called "First to Fly" whose members have been on board all of Singapore Airlines' inaugural flights.

Singapore Airlines originally flew the route for nine years using the gas-guzzling, four-engine A340-500 plane before abandoning it in 2013 because high oil prices made the service unprofitable.

An Airbus A350-900ULR plane was used to make this nonstop journey.

While airlines are typically able to charge more for non-stop flights, Singapore Airlines is offering initial fares from as low as $S1438 (34,159 Baht) return for premium economy from Singapore to Newark.

The marathon flight had no standard economy seats, only so-called "economy comfort" and business class.

Passengers had plenty of time to relax, sleep, eat, watch movies and then repeat it all! It's extraordinary to see the level of attention to detail. Even after 17 hours flying on 4 hours rest they have remained cheerful and helpful. I don't know quite how Singapore Airlines manages to train them like that.

Death Toll From Michael Rises to at Least 13
They included a 45-year-old man swept from his vehicle during a flash flood in Pittsylvania County, state police said. In Panama City, 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Mexico Beach, buildings were crushed and boats were scattered around.

In other words, the airline is hoping to lure not just business travelers, but leisure ones including seniors and millennials looking to reach Singapore and secondary destinations faster.

The flight crew included two first officers and 13 flight attendants.

The A350-900ULR is designed for a more comfortable travelling experience with features such as higher ceilings, larger windows, an extra wide body, quieter cabins and lighting created to reduce jetlag. According to airline experts, Singapore Airlines expects a majority of its passengers to be business people who need the convenience of non-stop flights rather than suffer through the hassles of layovers.

"Now that you asked me, I'm a little bit anxious".

It's the longest scheduled commercial flight in history, on a route that the airline already tried once before-and yet failed to turn into a stable, profitable route.

"The flight was great, smooth, enjoyable and ended too fast!" said Danny Ong, an engineer and flight enthusiast from Singapore, after landing in Newark. We now operate 40 flights a week between Singapore and the United States, which will increase to 53 flights by December 7, 2018. "I enjoy the passion of flying".

The launch of the Singapore-Newark service signifies a new era of growth for the important United States market, SIA's airline's senior vice-president for sales and marketing Campbell Wilson said.

Qantas meanwhile is in advanced discussions with Airbus and Boeing over an aircraft capable of making a 20-hour flight between London and Sydney.

"I fly for fun..." I'm an aviation enthusiast, ' Messaggio said.
