Justin Rose backs Padraig Harrington to be Europe's next Ryder Cup captain
Lee Westwood has ruled himself out of contention to be Europe's 2020 Ryder Cup captain and is instead backing Padraig Harrington for the role. The Irishman was the clear favourite to take charge at Whistling Straits in 2020, but Westwood has dubbed him "the flawless candidate" and said that he is "better equipped" to be captain on foreign soil.
"(Lee) Westwood's still capable of making a team next time around I believe, so is Padraig.
The succession will be decided in December at a meeting of a panel comprised of the past three captains - Thomas Bjorn, Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley - along with Keith... "We've got to let these 12 players enjoy this Ryder Cup and what was 2018 in Paris before we start looking forward to Whistling Straits".
Following Thomas Bjorn's successful captaincy in Europe, there was speculation about who the next man up would be on the Euro side.
"He's the right age and he's still in touch with the players because he's still playing out here".
"I won't put my name forward for this one", Westwood said ahead of the British Masters at Walton Heath today, where he will tee it up with the in-form Dubliner and Bjorn for the first two rounds.
China’s Exports, Imports Grow, as Does Trade Surplus With US
September exports rose 14.5 percent from a year earlier, the fastest pace since February, the customs data showed. The officials said United States nuclear exports to China amounted to $170 million in 2017.
The 45-year-old also told Sky Sports News that he felt three-time major victor Harrington was the "perfect candidate" and better equipped to lead Europe's attempt to retain the trophy won in convincing style at Le Golf National, where both he and Harrington were vice-captains.
Francesco Molinari, who is reunited with his Ryder Cup team-mates Tommy Fleetwood, Thorbjorn Olesen and tournament host Justin Rose this week, is also a Harrington advocate.
"I think the continuity in the European camp having all these vice-captains this year and preparing for captaincy down the road has been a huge foundation of why we've been so good".
"And then you've got (Lee) Westwood".
The former world No.1 was one of the vice-captains in this year's Ryder Cup where Europe secured an emphatic victory over the United States to regain the trophy in France.
"As much as when we lose, we try and just calm ourselves down, I think we also need to calm ourselves down when we win", Bjorn said. "Yeah, I think he would be great", the Italian said.
