Mexico opens border to women & children of US-bound migrant caravan

Mexico takes action against the migrant caravan from Honduras after Trump issues his demand

Presidents Hernandez of Honduras and Jimmy Morales of Guatemala held an emergency meeting Saturday at a Guatemalan.

A surge of migrants broke through a steel fence that had been padlocked shut.

Arriving on the Mexican side of a border bridge, they were met by a phalanx of police with riot shields.

Now anyone who gets past the Mexican authorities can be sent back for them to sort out. A handful jumped into the Suchiate River below to swim for rafts.

Trump also thanked Mexico for its efforts in stopping the caravan of migrants.

The president has repeatedly claimed that the migrants, and immigrants more broadly, lead to increased crime rates and allow illegal substances to pass over the border, although statistics suggest they do not. But it's unclear what will happen next.

The group chanted: 'We are not smugglers, we are migrants, ' as they reorganized themselves on Friday afternoon.

The migrant caravan left San Pedro de Sula, Honduras last Friday en route to the United States. "Meanwhile, we must accompany our fellow countrymen", he said on Friday. "We're prepared to do all that we can to support the decisions that Mexico makes about how they're going to address this very serious and important issue to their country".

BuzzFeed reported Thursday that the head of the organization that led the last caravan, Irineo Mujica, director of Pueblo Sin Fronteras and a USA citizen, had been detained by Mexican authorities.

"That's evidence of what this really is", Pompeo said.

"I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught - and if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!", President Trump tweeted yesterday. Without offering any sort of evidence to support his claim, Trump also called numerous people criminals.

Pivot to the Truth? Facebook Lied About Video Stats, Advertisers Say
Previously, the small advertiser had sued over the initial 2016 admission by Facebook, but it has now amended its suit. The two sides will appear before US District Judge Jeffrey White in Oakland on December 14, 2018 at 9am.

But Ivan Espinoza-Madrigal of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice told the Herald the asylum process is thorough and people should not fear those coming into the country. They might as well turn back.

Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala rank among the poorest and most violent countries in the Americas.

Two busloads of those police were visible on the Mexican side of the bridge from Tecun Uman Thursday.

The group say they will return to try to cross the heavily armed border and continue on their path to America in an hour, according to The Associated Press. Celebratory airhorns blared as they headed toward Mexico's port of entry.

Trump explained that group of over 4,000 migrants was now clashing with Mexican authorities, attempting to cross into their country by force.

Mexican officials said those with passports and valid visas - only a tiny minority of those trying to cross - would be let in immediately.

Anyone who wants to be recognized as a refugee or as a beneficiary of "complementary protection measures" must do so individually.

Any who decide to cross illegally and are caught will be detained and deported, the Mexican government has said.

We are quickly reaching a point which appears to be a moment of crisis: "record numbers of migrants", Pompeo told his Mexican counterpart, Luis Videgaray, during a visit to Mexico City. "I hope they continue". The Republican billionaire has made curbing undocumented immigration a keystone of his presidency.

"He's making a political calculation", said Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico's incoming foreign minister, about Trump's posting on Twitter, in a reference to US midterm elections in November.
