Microsoft's xCloud Streams Xbox Games To Mobile, PC & Console

Microsoft looks to take Xbox experience onto mobile

Microsoft's new service, Project xCloud enabled with the state-of-the-art game streaming technology, offers the gamers the freedom to play on the device of their choice without being bound to device-specific gaming, thereby empowering the gamers to be the focus of their gaming experience.

In a blog post, Microsoft's Corporate VP for Gaming Cloud, Kareem Choudry, said cloud game-streaming is a "multi-faceted, complex challenge". While this might be a title most play through consoles or on PC, the most recent update for the game saw 60% surge in data traffic over normal peak traffic levels on Verizon's broadband network, as well as a 5-8% jump on mobile.

Microsoft has officially thrown its hat into the cloud-powered gaming ring, announcing Project xCloud: 'gaming with you at the centre, ' it claims. It could be a while before we hear more about when we can get our hands on Project xCloud and test it out for ourselves. This is basically a new streaming service that will allow you to play your favourite Xbox games on a tablet or mobile device. They've architected a new customizable blade that can host the component parts of multiple Xbox One consoles, as well as the associated infrastructure supporting it. Essentially, if you want to play using entirely touch-screen controls, Microsoft is looking to make that playstyle feel just as deep as a controller would. An ambition that has given birth to xCloud, which is that the libraries for Xbox and Microsoft to be available on all devices: PC, Xbox, smartphone, tablet.

International Crown: England finish joint-second behind hosts South Korea
With three points, No. 7 Sweden sits three points behind the USA after splitting with third-seeded Japan on Friday. Michelle Wie and Jessica Korda walked off the course after the 12th, 1-down against Nasa Hataoka and Ayako Uehara.

Nvidia's GeForce Now game streaming service, meanwhile, is still in beta and also has its limitations.

Project xCloud will run via Microsoft's Azure servers, which are now spread out across 54 different locations globally. Eventually, other devices should be added to the list, but for now, the 2019 trial tests will take place on mobile devices. The firm says that it is combating latency with "advances in networking topology, and video encoding and decoding" which sounds promising. It aims to deliver "high-quality experiences at the lowest possible bitrates that work across the widest possible networks", and that includes a promise for 4G and 5G rollout, too.

Microsoft themselves seem to be sure about the success of such an endeavour, in spite of the complexities they will inevitably face.
