Saudi squad who came for Jamal Khashoggi included soldiers, royal guards

Khashoggi case should not be politicized, says UN expert

Twenty-two U.S. senators on Wednesday forced a United States investigation of whether human rights sanctions should be imposed over the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist last seen as he entered the Saudi consulate in Turkey on October 2.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker said that he told the Saudi ambassador the Khashoggi's disappearance could lead the U.S. to curtail arms sales to the kingdom.

"Well, I think that would be hurting us", Trump said.

Trump said the USA is doing well economically in part due to "what we are doing with our defense systems", and said, "frankly I think that would be a very, very tough pill to swallow for our country". It's a very sad situation.

At least 15 Saudi journalists and bloggers have been arrested over the past year, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said on Wednesday, following the disappearance of Saudi columnist Jamal Khashoggi. In recent days, I've witnessed the work of the Turkish authorities as they monitor the situation closely.

Corker's comments highlight a growing tension between Congress, which is calling for action on Khashoggi, and the White House, where President Donald Trump has indicated he's aware of Saudi responsibility but signaled that he's unwilling to take punitive steps, particularly ending arms sales to the kingdom because of the USA jobs they generate. Knowing that Khashoggi would be at the Consulate on October 2, the New York Times has reported, Saudi agents planned to kill him and dismember his body inside the Consulate. Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul went a step further, calling on the U.S. to block arms sales to Saudi Arabia if they're found to have been involved.

Khashoggi had fled his homeland in September past year and had been living in self-imposed exile in the United States, where he had applied for U.S. citizenship, Cengiz said.

Kiradech aims for fast PGA Tour start
I've been quite consistent with my play, but I didn't have enough good finishes on the board, after the win at the CIMB Classic . That will be the number one goal for now. "We have a really good chance here and if I play well, in golf, anything is possible.

The report adds new detail to Khashoggi's disappearance, directly implicating the crown prince, who is notably close to President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stopped short of accusing Riyadh of killing Khashoggi, but the Times' report says he dispatched officials to speak anonymously to media outlets. The Saudi government said Khashoggi left the consulate unharmed, but his fiancee, who was waiting outside, said he never appeared.

Yet Yasin Aktay, an adviser to Erdogan, wrote in a newspaper column today that "bashing Saudi Arabia is meaningless and useless" because "Turkey and Saudi Arabia are two nations that need each other". About two hours after he entered the consulate, video released by state media in Turkey shows several vehicles with diplomatic license plates, leave the consulate and drive some 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) away to the consul's residence. "We have a country that's doing probably better economically than it's ever done before", Trump said.

Paul also cited Saudi Arabia's intervention in neighboring Yemen's civil war.

Turkey on Monday conveyed its expectation of "full cooperation" from Saudi Arabia in the search for the missing journalist.

The sponsors of a major Saudi investor event to be held in Riyadh later this month are facing calls to end their involvement in the conference after allegations of the kingdom's connection to the disappearance and possible death of the dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

He continued: "Part of that is what we're doing with our defense systems and everybody's wanting them". The administration's Middle East agenda heavily depends on the Saudis, including efforts to counter Iranian influence in the region, fight extremism and build support for an expected plan for peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
