Several powerful earthquakes strike off the shore of Canada

2 powerful earthquakes strike near Port Hardy, Canada

A strong magnitude 6.6 natural disaster has struck just off the west coast of Vancouver Island late Sunday evening.

The U.S. Geological Survey in Golden says the several powerful quakes were reported Sunday evening.

Six minutes later, a third 6.5 magnitude tremor was registered 138 miles southwest of Port Hardy - before a weaker 4.9 quake was recorded in the same place 14 minutes after that.

The earthquakes hit the Canadian province of British Columbia, near Vancouver Island.

The National Tsunami Warning Center tweeted that a tsunami is "Not expected".

UN Scientific Panel Stresses The Need To Limit Global Warming
The target is a formidable one, made more hard by the fact that our governments have mostly cold-shouldered climate change issues. Additionally, those individuals that live near corporations are also at risk of being affected by climate change the most.

Official agencies reported that there was a possibility the earthquakes could have been felt lightly in parts of Vancouver Island, but that damage was unlikely.

USGS map shows location of earthquake's epicenter.

There are now no immediate reports of casualties or damage following the quakes and no tsunami warning has been issued.

Most of the quakes happen near the Cascadia subduction zone, an area where the Juan de Fuca and North American tectonic plates converge, stretching from Vancouver Island to northern California.
