Storm Callum How will bad weather affect the UK

Much of the United Kingdom will experience some heavy rain on Friday, with further spells at times during Saturday, as Storm Callum passes to the north west of the UK.

The Severe Orange Warning has just recently been extended in time out to 18:00 on Friday for coastal areas of Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway and Clare.

Joanna Donnelly of Met Éireann said the strong winds will continue on west coast but will ease slowly inland.

Storm Callum lashed Ireland with winds of up over 120kmh last night and there are fears that similar conditions are on the way for the weekend.

Storm Callum forced a meeting of the National Emergency Co-Ordination Group this afternoon and Met Éireann has issued its latest update on the expected storm impact.

The Met Office has warned that homes and offices are likely to be flooded, and fast flowing or deep floodwater could cause a danger to life.

"Even though the high winds will be the main concern, a spell of heavy and possibly thundery rain will occur too, making for an extremely windy and wet start, with squally conditions associated with the secondary cold front as it tracks north-eastwards up across the country".

There is some "overtopping" at the Promenade in Salthill, but gardaí say there is no flooding so far.
