Tways join list of father-son PGA Tour winners after Kevin's victory

Kevin Tway wins first PGA Tour title in Safeway Open playoff

Former Edmond North and Oklahoma State golfer Kevin Tway won his first PGA Tour event on Sunday, winning the Safeway Open in Napa, California, in a playoff against Ryan Moore and Brandt Snedeker.

Tway's father, Bob Tway, also secured his first victory in a playoff 32 years ago at Torrey Pines, making them the 10th father and son Tour winners.

Snedeker was not as sharp as he had been his opening two days, but caught fire in the end to surge to 16-under-par that positions him for a victory in the PGA Tour's season-opening event.

"I'm gonna look back on that one in a few years as, man, I really gave that one away", Snedeker said.

The veteran made three straight back-nine bogeys to bring a number of players back into the fold, and seemingly lost control of his swing while missing a number of greens with short irons or wedges in hand.

Snedeker could only manage par on the first playoff hole, the 18th, while Moore and Tway both hit birdies on the first two playoff holes.

Aaron Baddeley, who earned a spot in the tournament through the Monday qualifier, birdied the last hole to shoot 69 and finished one stroke back in a tie for fourth with Luke List (67), Troy Merritt (68), Sam Ryder (69) and Sungjae Im (71) of South Korea.

Tway birdied the final two holes of regulation, two-putting the par-five 18th to join the playoff.

Conversely, Moore played himself into contention with a round of 67 having started the day seven shots off the lead.

"When I got done with my round there were plenty of guys with plenty of holes left". "I played probably 63 holes of pretty damn good golf, and nine holes I'd like to have back".
