White House Counsel Don McGahn returns to civilian life

The Republican Club by Andy Thomas

The White House says the attorney representing President Donald Trump in the Russian Federation investigation is shifting roles and taking on duties as counsel to the president.

"I've known every White House counsel since I arrived in Washington", Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said Thursday in a statement.

Mr. Trump, in response to the Times' reporting, lashed out at the outlet, claiming he "allowed" McGahn and other White House staffers to testify before Mueller's team of investigators, adding that he has "nothing to hide" in the matter.

US president Donald Trump has said he will not accept the blame if his party loses control of the US House of Representatives in November, arguing that his campaigning and endorsements have helped Republican candidates.

During his time as White House counsel, McGahn repeatedly butted heads with Trump and occupied a position rife with potential conflicts.

He says "you can take it any way you want", when asked if it was appropriate to insult a woman's appearance. We just went through that with Justice (Brett) Kavanaugh.

Juncker said: "I had some colleagues on the phone say they don't want us to add flexibility to already existing flexibility". Markets reacted to Italy's plans by pushing up borrowing costs Friday to the highest levels in five years.

The White House lawyer has been planning to leave, but a source told CNN his departure was expedited after President Donald Trump picked Patrick Cipollone to replace him, which Trump announced Tuesday.

Cohen pleaded guilty in August to campaign finance violations alleging he coordinated with Trump on a hush-money scheme to buy the silence of Daniels and a Playboy model who alleged affairs.

Weeks away from the midterms, Democrats are hopeful about their chances to recapture the House, while Republicans are increasingly confident they can hold control of the Senate.

Trump said he will "handle it very well" if Democrats pursue investigations or impeachment should they take the House. He again repeated his frustration with Attorney General Jeff Sessions over the special counsel investigation, saying he could "fire him whenever I want to fire him, but I haven't said that I was going to".

On Saturday, Trump called the commercial litigator "a great guy" who is "very talented". The turnover has already broken records fewer than two years into Trump's first term.
